You Just Ate Sea Beast Parts!

Another hot week and a great weekend down! In school we have been working away and I finally feel like I can understand what my teachers are saying! (which is a plus) We have been touring museum after museum for our Cultural Visits.  Good thing I have my own personal tour guide (my roommate Emma) to tell me about the paintings so they don't all look exactly the same. She is an art history major and she will be a GREAT tour guide someday! I have been learning so much about the culture and history of Italy and it has been very interesting; I am enjoying watching and being apart of a different culture for two months.  This weekend we went to Livorno with Trina Harlow, one of my parents friends! Livorno is a beautiful city with a great beach! But the best part--- OUR HOTEL WAS AIR CONDITIONED!!!

 Emma and I had a great time with Trina!  Trina also knows a lot about all of the art and architecture in Italy. We got to Livorno late after noon and were in awe of how pretty our hotel room was, AND IT HAD AIR CONDITIONING! I really liked Livorno because out of all of the places I have been so far it had the least amount of tourists. Many people in Florence and Rome speak english and are excited to practice it on you, but in Livorno I was able to speak a ton of Italian and that was really fun!

Mostly our weekend was relaxing and we spent a lot of time at the beach, but we also had a few adventures... On saturday afternoon we decided to go to a local restaurant for lunch. Trina and Emma got pasta and I ordered some spaghetti with a mix of sea food. When my plate came out it wasn't the spaghetti plate.. it was entire pieces of fish, shrimp, muscles and clam. The fish still had its eyes and  the flies were loving my plate. Emma and Trina could hardly stand the smell and after eating two shrimp and a few bites of the fish I couldn't stomach the thought of eating anymore! EWWW!

The waitress came back and asked how we liked our food and I told her I didn't exactly get what I had ordered and she did not quite understand so she asked if I liked it and I said it was a little bit weird.  After that the waitress was not very nice to us. Trina was reading later that day and learned that that was their local dish and I had just called it weird.. oops..

But the food was not all bad; for both nights we ate outside on the top floor of our hotel overlooking the water! It was a beautiful restaurant and had great food! I tried my first octopus and it was actually really  good! We also met a very nice couple who let Trina have her charger, they wre from Russia! I have been meeting all kinds of different people who have been so kind. Every adventure I have gone on so far has been full of great people, food and memories!
